Hey folks, for what it's worth, i have a vaio sub notebook (cost only 3k US$ new). the finish pitting on mine also disintegrates within a few months after i bought it. needless to say, sony didn't even bother replying to my request to fix it... at the end of the day, these are as-cheap-as-possible produced products that they sell fools like us at a premium. let the buyer beware (my next will be from dell :-).

If at all possible, a visit to an Apple Store often works much better than calling Apple Care.

**UPDATE**
Well, after calling Apple Care and getting "We've never heard of that problem before...sounds like cosmetic damage...no we won't fix it", I set a Genius Bar appointment at the Apple store here in Jacksonville, Florida. The fella that I saw took one look at my MBP, consulted with his supervisor and agreed that my top panel should be replaced and will be covered under warranty.

Did any of you guys try going into an Apple store and showing them? It would probably be easier to convince them of the problem.
